Service Description

Our Hay Fever Injection Consultation is for patients with severe seasonal hay fever whose symptoms have not responded to antihistamines, nasal sprays or other standard treatments. A full medical assessment will be carried out to determine whether a Kenalog® injection is appropriate and safe for you. Kenalog® (triamcinolone acetonide) is a long-acting corticosteroid given as an intramuscular injection. It works by reducing the body's inflammatory response to pollen and other allergens, helping to relieve symptoms such as sneezing, itchy or watery eyes, a blocked or runny nose and nasal irritation. Relief may begin within a few days and can last for several weeks, although results vary. During your consultation we will review your medical history, current medications, allergies and previous treatments. We will discuss the benefits, risks, alternatives and answer any questions before treatment is offered. Kenalog® is not suitable for everyone. It may not be appropriate if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have uncontrolled diabetes, glaucoma, active infection, stomach ulcers, severe osteoporosis, certain mental health conditions or a weakened immune system. Common side effects include soreness or bruising at the injection site, headache, flushing, increased appetite, mood changes and temporary changes in blood sugar. Although rare, serious side effects can occur, including severe allergic reactions, increased risk of infection, adrenal suppression, vision changes and avascular necrosis (bone damage). Seek urgent medical attention if you develop difficulty breathing, severe swelling, chest pain, sudden vision problems or persistent severe pain in the hip or shoulder. Important: Kenalog® is a long-acting steroid. Once injected, it cannot be removed or reversed, and any side effects may continue until the medication has naturally worn off.
